Bundle or not: when combining policies makes sense
Combining home and auto often brings a discount, but not always the best price. Here is how to tell.

Why carriers like bundles
A carrier that insures your car and your home in one place has fewer customers to find and less paperwork to handle. Many pass part of that saving on as a multi-policy discount. Rates vary by carrier and eligibility, so the size of the discount is not the same everywhere.
When a bundle is not the best move
Sometimes one carrier is excellent for homes and average for cars. A bundle can then cost more than two separate policies from two different carriers. This is the case where comparing matters most.
How we compare
We quote the bundle and the split side by side, then add up the total for the year. We also look at the claims process, deductibles and limits, not only the price, and we tell you which option we would pick and why.
